How to Choose an ORIGAMI Dripper

The taste of coffee isn’t determined by the beans or the recipe alone.

In fact,
“the material of the dripper” is also a key factor that influences both the flavor and the overall brewing experience.

The same shape, the same design.
Even so, resin and porcelain differ in extraction temperature, tactile feel — and even the mood of the time you spend brewing.

The ORIGAMI Dripper is designed to offer both.
a dripper available in two materials: resin (AS plastic) and porcelain (Mino ware).

Here, we’ll explain the key points for choosing between them and the practical differences in performance.

What kind of moment are you looking for in a single cup of coffee?

On a busy morning,

a quick brew, a smooth sip.

On a leisurely afternoon,

a cup to savor slowly, listening to the gentle sound of water dripping through.

And coffee enjoyed outdoors, in an open and refreshing setting,

and a quiet cup savored at home,

both are equally “delicious,” yet the experience is entirely different.

Lightweight and easy, “resin” fits seamlessly into everyday life.

“Porcelain” enriches both texture and flavor.

What is the ORIGAMI Dripper?

The ORIGAMI Dripper is designed to offer both. With its unique structure created by 20 ribs,

it creates a proper air layer between the dripper and the paper filter.

By creating the right amount of space between the dripper and the paper filter,

it secures a clear path for the water to flow through,

allowing water to flow smoothly during extraction while preventing pooling and clogging.

It’s this smooth, unobstructed flow that…

is what creates a clean, clear cup without unwanted bitterness or muddiness.

It also makes it easier to control the flow rate of the water,

allowing you to express both delicate and bold flavors depending on your pouring technique.

the bright, fruity acidity of light roasts,

and the richness and sweetness of dark roasts,

bringing out the bean’s true character just as it is.

That’s exactly why ORIGAMI is…

while designed for home use,

continues to be chosen by top baristas, specialty coffee shops, and competition stages both in Japan and around the world.

And beyond that,

what truly makes this dripper one of a kind is that…

it’s not just the extraction structure.

“The ability to choose the material.”

And…

“its compatibility with two types of paper filters.”

Lightweight and easy to handle — **Resin**.

Rich in texture and heat retention — **Porcelain**.

And further,

a cone filter for precise control over flavor, and

a wave filter for stable, consistent extraction.

While most coffee drippers are limited to a fixed form,

ORIGAMI is designed to let you freely combine **material × filter × brewing method**.

In other words,

a single dripper lets you design countless variations of flavor and experience.

Today, you want something light and delicate.

Today, you want to draw out deep sweetness, slowly and carefully.

Today, you want to enjoy your coffee outdoors.

Choose your tools to match your mood and the moment.

To make that kind of coffee experience possible,

we arrived at this design.

From here,

we’ll introduce the differences each material brings.

MATERIAL 01
Carefully crafting both flavor and presence.
Porcelain Dripper
The porcelain model — the origin and symbol of ORIGAMI.

Carefully fired using the craftsmanship of Mino ware, this porcelain…
offers a smooth texture and a refined, elegant presence.

The gentle weight felt in your hands.
The sound of water dripping into the cup.
Time that flows gently and unhurried.

The act of brewing itself becomes something a little more special.

Porcelain has excellent heat retention, helping maintain a stable temperature during extraction,
making it easier to draw out sweetness, richness, and body in the cup.

For those who want to pursue flavor to its fullest,
it’s chosen by those who want to truly enjoy the act of brewing itself.

**Recommended for:**
・Those who prioritize consistency and stability in flavor
・Those who want to bring out rich body and sweetness
・Those who appreciate the texture and feel of porcelain and ceramics
・Those who want to enjoy a careful, mindful hand-drip experience at home
・Those looking for a special piece — perfect for gifting or for their own collection
MATERIAL 02
Light and free.
Resin Dripper (AS Plastic)

You’ll notice its remarkably light weight the moment you pick it up.

Durable, easy to carry, and effortless to handle.

It brings coffee closer to your everyday life.

Perfect for outdoor use, camping, travel, and pop-up events,

and easy to use even in a busy morning kitchen, without any stress.

“A coffee dripper you can use without overthinking.”

That’s what defines the resin type.

In addition, resin doesn’t retain heat as much,

so the extraction temperature tends to drop slightly, which can result in a slightly lower brewing temperature during extraction,

resulting in a cleaner, lighter, and more refreshing cup.

It pairs exceptionally well with light roasts and fruity coffees.

**Recommended for:**

・Those looking for a lightweight dripper

・Those who prefer a material that won’t break

・Those who want to use it outdoors or for camping

・Those who want to use it casually every day

・Those looking for a beginner-friendly dripper

HOW TO CHOOSE
If you’re unsure, choose like this.

Prioritize ease and lightness → Resin

Prioritize flavor and tactile quality → Porcelain

For outdoor use → Resin

For home use → Porcelain

Here are some of the questions we’re often asked.

FAQ

**Q. Does the taste really change between resin and porcelain?**

Yes. Differences in heat retention affect the brewing temperature, which in turn influences the flavor. Porcelain tends to bring out richness and sweetness, while resin typically results in a lighter, cleaner, and more delicate cup.

**Q. Which is recommended for beginners?**

If ease of use is your priority, we recommend resin. If you want to take your time and fully enjoy the flavor, porcelain is the better choice.

**Q. Which is best for outdoor use or camping?**

The resin type is ideal — it’s lightweight and resistant to breaking.

**Q. Which is better for home use?**

Most people choose porcelain for home use. It’s favored for its stability and refined feel.

By choosing your dripper to match the moment,

coffee becomes even more enjoyable.

**Q. What’s the difference between S and M sizes?**

The main difference is the recommended amount of coffee beans (dose).

How to choose between S and M (for one person or for sharing with family?)

RECIPE
Change the material, and the recipe changes too.

The same beans.

The same dripper shape.

The same water.

Even so, simply changing the material alters the extraction temperature and the flow of water,

and the flavor of the coffee can change in surprisingly expressive ways.

That’s why ORIGAMI…

recommends adjusting your recipe to match the material.

making the most of each material’s unique characteristics,

we’d like to introduce ORIGAMI’s recommended brewing recipes.

FOR RESIN
Recipe for the Resin Dripper

▪ Recommended Recipe (1 cup)

Coffee: 13g (light to medium roast)

Grind size: Medium grind

Water temperature: 92–93°C

Total water: 200ml

Brew time: 2:00–2:30

3-Pour Recipe (Cone Filter)

1. Pour 40ml and bloom for 30 seconds.

2. Pour up to 90ml and let it brew until 1:20.

3. Pour the remaining 70ml and let it draw down completely.

The key point is using a three-pour method to keep the extraction as quick as possible, minimizing unwanted bitterness and off-flavors. By pouring with a steady rhythm rather than over-controlling every detail, you can achieve a well-defined flavor and bring out the full potential of the beans.

FOR PORCELAIN
Recipe for the Porcelain Dripper
▪ Recommended Recipe (1 cup)
Coffee: 15g (medium-dark to dark roast)
Grind size: Medium-fine grind
Water temperature: 93–95°C
Total water: 240ml
Brew time: 3:00–3:30

① Preheat thoroughly (this is key)
② Bloom with 30ml for 40 seconds
③ Pour slowly and carefully in gentle circular motions
④ Let it draw down completely to the end

The key is to take it slow.
By extracting slowly, you’ll bring out a rounded sweetness and a long, lingering finish.
It also pairs beautifully with café lattes and milk-based drinks.

Choose just one?

Or use both, depending on the moment?

Resin or porcelain?

It’s not about which one is better.

Resin—light, effortless, and close to everyday life.

Porcelain—deepening both flavor and the time you spend with it.

Each has its own completely different strengths, so choosing to have both is also an option.

Even with the same recipe,

simply changing the material can transform both the flavor and the mood,

making coffee even more enjoyable.

A dripper is more than just a tool.

What was once simply a “drink,” coffee becomes…

the moment it transforms into “time” and “experience.”

Experience that moment with the ORIGAMI Dripper.
