2026 ORIGAMI CUP USA & Canada Report

The ORIGAMI CUP took place in Houston, USA, on August 1, 2026, followed by Toronto, Canada, on August 8.

With the winner of each competition earning a spot at the WORLD ORIGAMI CUP JAPAN 2027 in May 2027, competitors brought fierce passion to the stage, making for two intensely exciting events.

Each local ORIGAMI CUP reflects the unique touch and creative programming of its regional hosts. In this report, we share a glimpse of the vibrant atmosphere in both countries, along with the winning recipes from each champion.

ORIGAMI CUP USA 2026

Date: August 1, 2026

Venue: Niels Esperson Building

Host: Slow Pour Coffee Supply

The event was hosted at the Niels Esperson Building, nestled in the heart of downtown Houston, Texas. Built in 1927, this historic landmark is widely known as a city icon, celebrated for its magnificent Italian Renaissance architecture.

Organized by Slow Pour Supply, the competition brought together competitors and judges not only from the local Houston coffee community but from all across the United States.

The Panel of Judges

The final round determined the champion through competitor presentations. The finalists swiftly finalized their concepts and delivered compelling, spontaneous presentations, making for an engaging spectacle that served as a true highlight of the event.

Grind: 3.5 on a 1Zpresso ZP6
Water temp: 200°F
Bloom: 30g for 40 seconds
:40 — pour to 90g (spiral pour, medium agitation)
1:05 — pour to 170g (spiral pour, medium agitation)
1:30 — continuous center pour to 225g

ORIGAMI CUP CANADA 2026

Date: August 8, 2026

Venue: The Roasters Pack

Host: Roguewave Coffee, The Roaster Pack

The stage for the ORIGAMI CUP CANADA was set at The Roasters Pack, a coffee roaster based in Toronto. The competition was co-hosted by Rogue Wave Coffee from Edmonton, Alberta, and The Roasters Pack.

Housed in a spacious, repurposed warehouse, the open-concept venue welcomed a vibrant crowd of competitors and spectators—not only from local Toronto, but from across all of Canada. The atmosphere was electric, making for an extraordinarily energetic and successful event.

Adding to the excitement, 2021 World Brewers Cup Champion Matt Winton joined the event as a special guest judge, taking the energy and prestige of the competition to even greater heights.

Andrew's Winning Recipe

Gear:

・ORIGAMI Air Resin Dripper, size small
・Fellow Ode Gen 1 with SSP brew burrs
・ORIGAMI cone papers
・ORIGAMI Pinot Aroma server

Water:

30–40ppm (1 part filtered tap water to 3 parts distilled water)
85ºC

Coffee:

Sorted out any beans that were broken, small & dark, and large & pale
20g, ground a little finer than average

Brew:

Start the timer, add 60g to fully saturate the grinds
At 1:00, add 100g using a melodrip in small, circular patterns
At 1:15, add 90g using a melodrip in small, circular patterns

Total brew time of 1:45

Both champions from the US and Canada events are scheduled to represent their regions at the WORLD ORIGAMI CUP JAPAN 2027, slated to take place in Tokyo in May 2027.
